Elegant but Casual and Comfortable
I'm excited to share with you a tutorial on creating a beautiful long sleeve shirt.
This isn't just any shirt; it's a basic yet elegant piece that can be a staple in anyone's wardrobe. The beauty of this project is its versatility. Depending on the fabric you choose, the final look can vary, allowing you to tailor it to your personal style.
The pattern is available on my Patreon, so you can easily follow along and craft a shirt that's uniquely yours.
In the video I show you in detail how I have sewn it and give you some tips and tricks a long the way.
If you prefer to read, you can also follow the written guide or use it to look up a step again.

You can download the pattern by entering your e-mail or do it yourself. Take a long sleeve shirt that fits you perfectly, lay it flat on paper, trace it’s outline, and voila! You’re pattern is ready!
For this project, I've chosen a dark green jersey fabric. There's something about this shade of green that I absolutely love. Choose the thickness of the fabric based on how warm the shirt should be. Important is that the fabric is stretchy! I imagine a translucent fabric looking great too :) Once you've chosen your fabric, lay out the pattern and cut the front piece. the back piece, two sleeves and the neckband.
With your pieces cut out, begin by sewing the shoulder seams. I used my overlock for this, but a regular sewing machine with a zigzag stitch works just as well. A quick tip: while sewing, let your serger trim about four millimeters. This ensures the seam sits correctly, given the pattern's one-centimeter seam allowance.
Identify the front and back of your sleeve. Pin it to the bodice, right sides facing each other. Given the curvy nature of this seam, use plenty of pins to keep everything in place. Once pinned, sew the sleeves in place.
Fold the shirt, right sides together, and sew the underarm seam and the side seam. A little challenge here is aligning the shoulder seam, but don't worry too much; in this area no one will notice anyways.
Prepare your neckband by folding it crosswise and sewing to create a loop. Then, fold lengthwise and sew again.
Pin the neckband evenly onto the neckline, ensuring the seam of the neckband is at the back. Sew the pieces together.
The final step is to hem the sleeves and the bottom edge of the shirt. Once done, you've got yourself a beautiful long sleeve shirt!
